GUWAHATI, Nov 24: After the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra swept the assembly elections winning 231 seats in the 288-member assembly, the new government is likely to be formed on November 25 with the tenure of 14th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly ending on November 26.
As government formation takes center stage, all eyes are on who will become the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra? Will Eknath Shinde continue to hold the top post or will it be anyone from the BJP as Devendra Fadnavis’ return as Chief Minister seems to be echoing loud and clear in political circles.
The BJP bagged 132 seats of the total 148 it contested while the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena won 57 seats and the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar got 41 seats.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance partners had the worst show with the Uddhab Thakrey faction of the Shiv Sena winning only 20 out of the 89 seats it had contested, the Congress 16 and the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP securing 10 seats.
