GUWAHATI, Dec 29: A heated war of words followed by a scuffle and then claims of assault on a Sabha official by Ajit Prasad Sarma, one of the candidates for the post of general secretary, has hit the Asom Sahitya Sabha.
Two groups of Sahitya Sabha officials could be seen entering into a heated argument at the Bhrigu Kumar Phukan Auditorium in Dadara near Hajo in Kamrup district, the venue for counting of votes to decide who becomes the next president and general secretary along with other key positions of the apex literary body of Assam.
However, ahead of the counting of votes which was set to begin at 10:30 in the morning today, an argument broke out followed by a scuffle and claims made by Sushil Deka, organising secretary of the Kamrup district committee of Asom Sahitya Sabha, that he was assaulted by Ajit Prasad Sarma after the scuffle.
It may be mentioned here that Upendra Rabha Hakacham and Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami are vying for the president’s post of the apex literary body and it will be known by today evening as to who succeeds Surjya Hazarika as the new Assam Sahitya Sabha president.
