A big new space update is coming straight to your screen—and this time, it’s through Netflix. In an exciting collaboration, NASA has partnered with Netflix to stream real-time rocket launches, spacewalks, and even live views of Earth from the International Space Station (ISS). The livestreams will be available via NASA+, NASA’s own streaming platform, which is now getting a big boost by being added to Netflix’s global platform.
NASA made this announcement recently, and while they haven’t confirmed the exact launch date, they’ve said viewers can expect the new streaming experience sometime this summer.
NASA’s move aims to bring its space missions closer to people all over the world. With Netflix’s huge user base of over 700 million people, the space agency hopes to inspire more viewers with its missions, technology, and stories of exploration.
Rebecca Sirmons, General Manager of NASA+ at NASA Headquarters in Washington, said, “The National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 encourages us to share our story of space exploration with as many people as possible. Through this partnership, we’re embracing a Golden Age of Innovation and Exploration—bringing it right into people’s homes or onto their phones.”
NASA+ will still remain completely free and without ads on the NASA app and website. This means people don’t need to pay anything extra to enjoy space launches and educational content. But the Netflix tie-up will help NASA go beyond its regular reach and appeal to younger viewers and families who enjoy science, space, and exploration content from the comfort of their living room.
Viewers can expect a wide variety of shows, from satellite launches and spacewalks to documentaries on the history of NASA’s missions, human spaceflight, aeronautics, and more. The agency also plans to announce the detailed programming and timings in the coming days before the summer rollout.
This move also comes at a time when Netflix is broadening its range of content. Just last year, Netflix had grabbed headlines after acquiring exclusive streaming rights to WWE Raw, the weekly professional wrestling show. Now, with NASA’s partnership, Netflix is adding something truly out-of-this-world to its content library.
Whether you’re a science student, a space geek, or just someone who loves watching rockets blast off into the sky, this collaboration between NASA and Netflix promises to be thrilling and educational. You can now witness the marvels of space exploration from wherever you are—on your TV, tablet, or smartphone.
So, if you’ve ever dreamed of watching Earth from space or following astronauts as they take bold steps outside the ISS, just sit back and wait a little longer. NASA+ on Netflix is going to make space history more accessible than ever before.
