The Supreme Court Tuesday updated its earlier verdict into the bail plea of West Bengal BJP activist Priyanka Sharma who was arrested by West Bengal Police for allegedly posting a morphed image of Mamata Banerjee on the social media.
The vacation bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Sanjiv Khanna modified its earlier order, striking down the condition of apology and directed the West Bengal Government to release Sharma immediately.
“Sharma is directed to be release immediately, without any condition,” Justice Indira Banerjee said.
The vacation bench had earlier asked Priyanka Sharma, a BJP Yuva Morcha leader, to apologise in writing upon her release from jail for allegedly posting the morphed picture of the West Bengal Chief Minister before striking off the apology condition in its updated order.
Sharma was arrested on May 10 by the West Bengal Police under section 500 (defamation) of the IPC and under other provisions of the Information Technology Act on the complaint of a local Trinamool Congress leader Vibhas Hazra. (With PTI Inputs)
