The opposition parties are demanding verification of VVPAT slips of randomly-selected polling stations before the counting of votes on May 23. Leaders of 22 opposition parties met officials from the Election Commission of India in New Delhi and laid out their demands.
The leaders also demanded that if any discrepancy was found during VVPAT verification then the EC should do 100 per cent counting of the paper slips of VVPATs of all polling stations of that particular assembly segment. It should then be compared with the results of the electronic voting machine (EVM).
According to the opposition party leaders these steps are necessary to bring transparency and fairness in the counting of votes.
