Voting was held in the seventh and final phase opf Lok Sabha polls in 59 constituencies across the country. Key candidates whose fate will be decided in this phase are Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is seeking re-election from Varanasi, union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, actor-turned politician Sunny Deol, former Union minister Manish Tiwari etc.
Polling was held in 13 seats in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal, eight each in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, four in Himachal Pradesh, three in Jharkhand and for the lone seat of Chandigarh.
There have been reports of violence in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. In West Bengal, BJP MP candidate Anupam Hazra alleged that women TMC workers were covering their faces at a Jadavpur booth and giving proxy votes.
He further said TMC goons physically assaulted a BJP mandal president, a driver and attacked a car. Hazra’s car was also allegedly attacked.
On the other hand, Clashes were reported between Samajwadi Party and BJP supporters at Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh.
Two polling officials have reportedly died in Madhya Pradesh after suffering cardiac arrests.
Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
