Chartered plane crashes into Mumbai construction site; 5 dead

PUBLISHED:

Five people were killed after a chartered plane has crashed near Jagruti building in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. The plane crashed into a construction site in the thickly populated suburb.

The plane was about to land at the Mumbai airport when it crashed and killed all four on board- two pilots and two maintenance engineers. One man was also killed as the plane crashed at a spot that was next to several high-rise residential buildings.

The chartered plane, a Beechcraft King Air C 90 twin-turboprop, was previously sold by the Uttar Pradesh government in 2014 to a Mumbai-based company, UY Aviation.

Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has also asked officials to rush to the spot to assist in the relief operations. He has also asked the investigation authorities to ascertain the cause of the crash.
