Assam Police hand over 7 Rohingias to Myanmar

PUBLISHED:

Assam Police today (Oct 4) handed over seven Rohingias to Myanmar after formally completing deportation formalities with authorities of the neighbouring country.

The seven Rohingias – Mohd. Jamal, Mohbul Khan, Jamal Hussain, Mohd. Yonus, Sabir Ahmed, Rahim Uddin and Mohd. Salam – were in detention at the Cachar central jail in Silchar after they were arrested in July 2012 for illegally entering the country.

They were handed over to Myanmarese authorities at the Moreh border post in Manipur.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a stay on the deportation of the seven Rohingia immigrants to Myanmar stating that “it won’t interfere in Centre’s decision on deportation”.
