GUWAHATI: Senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader from Nalbari districtAkan Malla Baruah is no more. Baruah who served the party in different positions breathed his last at his Nalbari residence on Friday night. He was 75 at the time of his demise.
Baruah was associated with the AGP since its inception. He was president of the district unit of the party for several terms. Baruah was also well-known as a versatile actor.
Expressing deep grief over the death of the senior leader, AGP president Atul Bora said in a statement, “I am deeply saddened at the demise of the senior leader of AGP, former student leader, prominent social worker and actor respected Akan Malla Baruah.”
Meanwhile, the party has announced a three-day mourning to pay tribute to the veteran leader. All the party programmes have been cancelled during this period.
Assam cabinet minister and senior AGP leader Phani Bhushan Choudhury visited the residence of Akan Malla Baruah and paid last tribute to the leader.
