Nagaon firing incident: Assam Govt directs DGP to suspend SI Pradeep Bania

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: The Assam government has directed the state DGP to immediately suspend sub-inspector Pradeep Bania for his alleged involvement in the firing incident in Nagaon.

It may be recalled that on January 22, former student leader Kirti Kamal Bora was shot after he allegedly attacked a police team which was probing a narcotics drugs case.

The Assam government had constituted a one-man inquiry committee comprising additional chief secretary Pawan Borthakur to probe the incident.

As such, based on the recommendations of the inquiry committee, the state government also directed the DGP to transfer all members of the anti-narcotic squad, Nagaon, other than SP Anand Mishra, out of Nagaon district immediately.

The state government further directed the DGP to take steps on disbanding the present form of anti-narcotic squad constituted by SP, Nagaon. The state government also directed to transfer the two cases on the basis of FIR filed by police officers Pradeep Bania and Nilkamal Bora to the CID.

The state government has asked the DGP to conduct a departmental inquiry by a senior police officer regarding the role played by each and every police officer involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, the state government has directed the police to ascertain the safety and security of witnesses of the case.
