Guwahati: The near dead-locked Naga Peace Process appears to have been raised to a political level with Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma set to hold talks with NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah in Dimapur on September 21.
In another big development, the new Naga Peace Interlocutor Akshaya Kumar Mishra also arrived in Dimapur today.
Mishra is expected to hold his first round of talks with the NSCN-IM on Monday.
Meanwhile, Sarma is arriving in Dimapur on September 21st and is immediately expected to hold a discussion with Muivah. It is not immediately known whether he would speak to other negotiating groups as well.
The timing of the meeting assumes significance as it comes within days of the exit of former interlocutor and Nagaland Governor RN Ravi and the naming of new interlocutor Akshaya Kumar Mishra.
This is the first time that Sarma will be holding talks with any of the Naga negotiating group leaders. The Assam chief minister had earlier met some of the Naga civil society groups in Guwahati.
Nagaland government spokesperson Neiba Kronu also confirmed about Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Dimapur visit.
