Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who is also the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance or NEDA will visit Chumukidima on Thursday where he is expected to meet BJP leaders and leaders of the other coalition parties. The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Niathu Resort.
Sarma’s visit to Nagaland comes amid the ongoing talks concerning the Naga Issue.
However, the Assam Chief Minister has underplayed talks of his possible role in the Naga peace talks stating that he is in no way associated with the peace process and that all discussions will happen between the NSCN-IM leadership and central interlocutor AK Mishra.
Sarma maintained that his visit was in the capacity of the NEDA convenor.
Further, Sarma informed that he is not meeting any NSCN-IM leader during the visit even as he pointed out that interlocutor AK Mishra is dealing with the peace process with NSCN-IM.
Sarma also stated that he will not interfere in the Naga peace talks unless specifically asked to meet certain leadership to clarify any issue.
The NEDA convener added that the process of talks is going on between the Government of India and the Naga Political issue stakeholders and hence it would not be wise for anyone to comment on the complex issue.
