GUWAHATI: The Governor’s Rule in Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) will end by October last and along with other parties from the area, Gana Suraksha party chief Naba Sarania is demanding immediate election in the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC).

Sarania stated that as Lockdown has been withdrawn, the BTC elections can be conducted following proper norms of COVID-19. As we are not sure when COVID-19 will end so we have to co-exist with COVID-19 said the former rebel leader.

Senior BPF leader Khampa Borgoyari said, “Corona is active across the world and many countries are conducting elections amid this pandemic. Even America is preparing for the presidential election. In Rajasthan, from 28 September Panchayat elections will be conducted. Also, preparations are going on for assembly elections in Bihar. So, why are we so afraid to conduct election in BTC?”

Borgoyari appealed to the Election Commission and Assam Government to conduct the BTC elections as soon as possible, “It is unfortunate that the Assam Government is worrying about community transmission in nearby areas including Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, and Darrang. The government should immediately conduct the BTC elections and provide the democratic rights of the people.”

Borgoyari also stated if the election is further delayed, developmental works in the BTC area will also get delayed.
