GUWAHATI, Dec 12: The Home department carried out a major reshuffle in the top brass of the Assam Police with Munna Prasad Gupta replacing Deepak Kumar as the new Guwahati Police Commissioner.
The axe fell on Deepak Kumar following the violence and arson in Guwahati during the anti-CAB protests that have crippled normal life in the Assam capital with indefinite curfew in place since Wednesday evening.
Gupta was earlier posted in the Special Protection Group.
NIA IGP GP Singh has been brought back to Assam and will take over from Mukesh Agarwal as ADGP (Law & Order). Agarwal has been transferred as ADGP (Border).
ADGP (CID) LR Bishnoi, who was earlier in the day transferred and posted as ADGP (Training and Armed Police), will continue to remain as ADGP (CID).
Outgoing Guwahati Police chief Deepak Kumar has been transferred as ADGP (T&AP) and ADGP (STF).
ADGP SN Singh and DIG Anand Prakash Tiwari, who is currently officiating as ASTC MD, have been roped in to control the law-and-order situation in the State.
ADGP (BIEO) KV Singh Deo will hold the additional charge of ADGP (Prosecution).
In other significant rejigs, Jitmol Doley has been transferred as SP of Jorhat, Nilesh Tryambak Sawakare transferred and posted as DCP (West) Guwahati, Dr Dhananjay Parshuram Ghanawat transferred and posted as SP of Dhemaji, Subashini Sankaran will be the new DCP (East), Guwahati.
Ranjan Bhuyan, presently holding the post of DCP (East) Guwahati, has been transferred and posted as DCP (Traffic), Guwahati.
