GUWAHATI: Two men have been arrested in connection with forgery amounting Rs. 60 lakh under Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) in Golaghat.

The accused have been identified as Abhijit Borah and Mojen Basumatary. Mojen Basumatary is an employee of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

The huge amount of money was reportedly misappropriated creating several fake bank accounts.

“Abhijit Borah along with his friend Mojen Basumatary approached Golaghat branch manager of Central Bank of India. They said that NABARD Jorhat had approved the names of 10 beneficiaries for MUDRA loan. They got sanctioned loans worth Rs. 59 lakh in the names of hardware and dairy shops,” said a senior official of Golaghat Police.

“The accused opened multiple fake accounts in different banks. Rs. 59 lakh was misappropriated transferring to multiple accounts. The original beneficiaries complained the branches when they came to know about the scam,” said the Police officer.
