MS Dhoni Returns as CSK Captain
MS Dhoni Returns as CSK Captain: In a significant development for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during IPL 2025, veteran cricketer MS Dhoni has resumed captaincy duties after current skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a hairline fracture in his elbow.
Gaikwad sustained the injury during a match against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 but continued to play in subsequent games against Delhi and Punjab. However, the injury has now sidelined him, leaving CSK in a challenging position.
Expressing his disappointment, Gaikwad shared a heartfelt message with fans, stating, “I’m really gutted to miss the rest of the IPL due to an unfortunate elbow injury. I want to thank everyone for your support so far, it truly means a lot.” He also humorously referred to Dhoni as the “young wicketkeeper” now leading the team and expressed hope for a turnaround under his leadership.
Dhoni, who led CSK from 2008 to 2023, returns to captaincy at the age of 43. His leadership comes at a crucial time, as CSK currently sits ninth out of ten teams, having lost four of their first five matches this season.
CSK’s upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium is seen as a pivotal game that could determine the team’s trajectory for the rest of the season.
