GUWAHATI: More than 4 thousand declared foreigners were included in the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), revealed in an affidavit filed by NRC State Coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma.
Expressing grave concern, Assam Public Works (APW) president Abhijit Sharma alleged that around 80 lakh foreigners were included in the final NRC published in 2019. Sarma raised serious allegations of anomalies against Prateek Hajela, ex-state coordinator of the NRC.
“We have come to know about this from an affidavit filed by present state coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma before the High Court. In reality, more than 80 lakh foreigners were included. This NRC should be rejected. A new NRC must be updated with re-verification. The foreigners were included at the behest of ex-state coordinator of NRC Prateek Hajela and his accomplices,” Sarma said.
