In a major update from the cricket and legal world, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been directed by the Kolkata High Court to pay ₹4 lakh per month to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and daughter Aaira. This order will apply retrospectively from the past seven years, adding a serious financial burden to the cricketer.
According to the court’s ruling, Hasin Jahan will receive ₹1.5 lakh per month, while their daughter Aaira will get ₹2.5 lakh monthly as maintenance. The verdict came on 1 July 2025, while the case hearing was held on 21 April 2025.
This order is not only a monthly obligation for Shami but also includes arrears from the last seven years, meaning he now owes a substantial lump sum in addition to ongoing payments.
The Story Behind the Case
Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan got married on 7 April 2014, and welcomed their daughter Aaira on 17 July 2015. However, the marriage took a bitter turn when Shami reportedly discovered that Hasin Jahan had been previously married and had two children from her first marriage—a fact she had allegedly hidden.
What followed was a storm of allegations. In 2018, Hasin Jahan filed serious complaints against Shami and his family, accusing them of domestic violence and other misconduct. Since then, the case has been in court, going through multiple stages of legal review.
Though a decision was already made earlier, Hasin Jahan challenged the amount awarded, claiming it was insufficient. She once again approached the court, which resulted in this updated order.
High Court’s Strong Directive
Apart from the financial order, the Kolkata High Court has also asked the lower court to dispose of the case within six months, pushing for quicker resolution in what has already been a seven-year-long legal battle.
This development could impact Shami both personally and professionally. While he has continued playing cricket at the highest level, these legal challenges have kept him in the news off the field as well.
The latest court order underlines the importance of spousal and parental responsibilities, even for public figures like Mohammed Shami. As the case heads toward final settlement, this decision may set a precedent for how long-standing matrimonial disputes involving celebrities are handled.
The legal and emotional chapter between Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan may still have a few pages left, but the court has clearly signaled the need for fair maintenance and timely justice.
