Assam MLA from Hojai, Shiladitya Dev on Sunday criticized ULFA(I) leader Paresh Baruah for the blast that took place near Fancy Bazaar in Guwahati on Saturday noon. The MLA questioned Baruah as to what has Baruah done for Assam and its people rather than killing and injuring them.

Earlier on Saturday, ULFA(I) has claimed responsibility for the blast that rocked the Brahmaputra riverfront at Fancy Bazaar in Guwahati around noon today (Oct 13). ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah told News Live over telephone that the explosion was intended to target Bengali-speaking organizations opposing the NRC update process.

Speaking to News Live, MLA Shiladitya Dev said that Paresh Baruah has destroyed Assam by carrying out bomb blasts. Dev further stated that if Baruah is against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the latter should have raised his voice when names of several foreigners were enlisted in the final draft National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Meanwhile, Assam’s Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya said Baruah should apologise for the act. “What will Paresh Baruah gain by carrying out such acts? And what is he trying to prove? He should apologise,” Bhattacharya told reporters at the blast site.
