MLA ‘rape’ case: Victim’s husband arrested

In a fresh development in the alleged rape of a woman by an Assam legislator, Azara police arrested the victim’s husband from the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi international airport Saturday night.

The victim’s husband was arrested by a team of cops while he was trying to flee to Mumbai, a day after his wife accused AIUDF MLA from Algapur, Nizam Uddin Choudhury, of raping her in the presence of her husband at Hailakandi circuit house.

The victim had filed a police complaint at Hailakandi Sadar Police Station in which she accused the AIUDF MLA of raping her in May this year. Police had registered a case on the basis of her complaint.

Meanwhile, the AIUDF legislator has rubbished the accusations terming them politically motivated and a conspiracy to derail his political career. Incidentally, the victim’s mother has also questioned the allegations her daughter has levelled on Nizam Uddin Choudhury.
