Four women from Assam who had gone to Kerala to take part in a handloom and handicrafts fair and were stranded at Chengannur town in Alappuzha district returned home today (Aug 22). The return journey of the four women was possible after News Live’s Political Editor Chayamoni Bhuyan, who is reporting from ground zero in Kerala, met them and established communications with the Assam chief minister’s office for their rescue.
It was after News Live’s ‘Mission Rescue’ to help stranded people from the region return home that the Assam Government arranged their journey back home. The four stranded women were first brought to Thiruvananthapuram on Monday and finally arrived in Guwahati.

The four rescued women thanked News Live for the help and support that, they acknowledged, was instrumental in their quick return to Assam after they were stranded at Chengannur town following the deluge.
“We had left Assam on Aug 9 and reached Kerala on Aug 13. We attended the fair on the 14th but after the flood situation worsened, we were stranded in Chengannur town from Aug 15th. It was only after News Live’s Chayamoni Bhuyan met us that we saw a ray of light so as to return home. Had it not been for News Live and Chayamoni Bhuyan, we would have still been stranded in the flood-ravaged State,” one of the stranded woman told News Live after returning to Guwahati.
