GUWAHATI: The eagerly-awaited Mirzapur 2 has started streaming on Prime Video (Amazon). Social Media, news channels, websites and entertainment channels, on Thursday evening were abuzz with what Mirzapur 2 had to offer. Basically, the promotion part was taken over by the crowd.
We started it late in the evening and managed to enjoy three tight episodes before it was time to stop and not end it all in one go. Though in the morning there were reports of binge watching by die-hard fans and asking for Mirzapur 3.
Based on the first three episodes it looks pretty clear that Guddu Bhaiya is going to make a grand comeback and take over Mirzapur. Though he was not able to get up and had to take some help, he quickly makes it to the shooting range once he thought it was going slow. For Guddu Bhaiya it is revenge for his brother Bablu Pandit’s death and nothing else and for Munna Bhaiya, it is marking his territory, his dominance and earning respect in the eyes of his father Akhandanand Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiya.
The first episode is very rugged and brutal and abusive to the core with choicest expletives. It also shows the ladies taking the lead and killing a police officer with a glass shard and chasing and injuring the informer while Guddu Pandit lies injured (shot in the leg, season 1 last episode) helplessly inside a room in the middle of nowhere. The three keep on running from one place to another with a kidnapped doctor who finally helps them to get shelter at his place. Well, this portion is weak and shows lack of imagination. Guddu Pandit is almost a bahubali and he has no safe houses to hide, to recover, no crew, but two ladies! He finally cuts a deal with opium trader Lala to get back some of his clout and also saves Lala’s life from assassins sent by Munna.
The usual politician, drug traffickers and gun runners keep you busy with Kaleen Bhaiya trying and almost succeeding to undo what Munna did in the Gorakhpur wedding. Then we have Ramakant Pandit (Rajesh Tailang) telling his son Guddu to never come back unless to surrender. The idealist, lawyer, father goes on an evidence, witness collecting hunt of the Gorakhpur firing that results in nothing.
The new face to rule nearby Jaunpur is Rati Shankar Shukla’s son Sharad who on a sudden change of strategy agrees to work for Munna Bhaiya. Well, on the other hand at Tripathi mansion the senior most Tripathi and the daughter-in-law have a dangerous secret among themselves where both try to act on instincts.
