GUWAHATI, Dec 16: A minor girl was kidnapped and then gangraped by five youths in South Tripura on December 14 making it the second such crime to be reported in a week.
The victim was abducted from her home and taken to a nearby rubber plantation in Mahondaira area of Paikhola where the five accused allegedly gang-raped her throughout the night.
The minor informed her mother about the incident after returning home following which her family lodged a complaint at Santir Bazaar Police Station.
A case has been registered under Section 6 of the POCSO Act along with relevant sections of the BNS 2023 Act, indicating serious offences connected to the crime.
Based on the victim’s mother’s identification, all five accused have been arrested, Inspector Asutosh Sarma, officer-in-charge of Santir Bazaar Police Station, said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shaktirai Reang (18), Nibas Tripura (19), Subhash Reang (19), Lakshidhan Tripura (18), and Jiban Tripura (21).
They were produced before Bilonia District and Sessions Court on Sunday.
Earlier on December 8, a minor girl was gang raped by two youths in Unakoti district of the State. Both accused — Faruk Uddin (35) and Manik Miah (25) — residents of Samrurpara Gram Panchayat were arrested.
