CM’s free diagnostic scheme to be expanded: Himanta Biswa

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced the launch of complete free access to laboratory services in all government health facilities in the State, under Chief Minister’s Free Diagnostic Services Programme. Announcing the landmark launch in the health sector of Assam, Minister Sarma said that people of the State will be able to avail total of seventy-seven (77) tests at different layers down to Primary health Centers.

Minister Sarma said that, the Assam government has been working on rational deployment of 1758 laboratory technicians across Assam to ensure effective 24×7 services at district hospitals.

The Minister further said that, “Strict protocols are being developed for carrying out tests, time frame, disposal of bio-medical waste, lab safety, quality assurance and SOPs. Along with laboratory information management system, orientation programme is being designed for technicians to up-skill them.”

“All laboratories will be required to report assistance to beneficiaries on monthly basis. Laboratories at each level should have a defined quality assurance programme. A guideline containing internal as well as external quality control shall be issued shortly,” said Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He said, top five laboratory technicians will be recognised during annual Kayakalp Award distribution at State level. They will be identified by district level monitoring committee on basis of number of lab tests conducted with proper bio medical waste disposal, informed the Minister.

Meanwhile, the Minister also announced several other schemes and benefits for the National Health Mission (NHM) employees, women labours of tea gardens and ASHA workers.
