Meghalaya reports 532 new COVID-19 cases, 24 more deaths

Shillong:  Meghalaya’s COVID-19 tally rose to 36,597 on Wednesday as 532 more people tested positive for the infection while 24 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 616, a senior health department official said.

Of the 24 deaths, 13 were reported from East Khasi Hills district, six from West Jaintia Hills, two each from East Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills and one from Ri Bhoi district, Health Services Director, Aman War said.

Meghalaya now has 6,403 active COVID-19 cases, he said.

War said 711 more people recovered from COVID-19, taking the total number of recoveries to 29,578,

The state has so far tested over 5.98 lakh samples for COVID-19, he said.

A total of 4.59 lakh people have been inoculated in the state with over 83,000 of them receiving both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, War added. (PTI)
