Meghalaya CM and NPP leader Conrad Sangma won the assembly by-polls from South Tura defeating his nearest rival Charlotte W Momin of the Congress party by a margin of 8421 votes. While Sangma polled 13,656 votes, Momin got 5235 votes.

On the other hand, UDP’s Pius Marwein won the by-polls for Ranikor assembly constituency after he defeated NPP candidate Martin M Danggo by 2896 votes.
Counting of votes were held today (Aug 27).
The by-polls were necessitated after former MLA Agatha Sangma, who is the sister of chief minister Conrad Sangma, vacated the South Tura seat to facilitate her brother’s election to the Meghalaya legislative assembly.
On the other hand, by-polls were held at Ranikor assembly seat after former Public Works Department Minister and five-time Congress MLA Martin Dango resigned as legislator and joined the ruling NPP.
