GUWAHATI: The under-construction Nagaon Medical College will begin its MBBS academic session from next year, 2022. This was stated by Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta. Talking to reporters in Nagaon, the minister informed that structural work of buildings of the medical college is almost over and interior work remains.

“Our target was for December this year and as per our analysis and consultation the academic session can start at Nagaon Medical College from the coming session,” said Mahanta.

On the progress of civil and other works that are underway at the location, the health minister said that the majority of the work has been completed.

“The structures have come up for most of the buildings. Structure work for the Administration Building, College Building, Girls Hostel, Boys hostel is almost over and mostly interior work remains. The work is going on at the desired speed and we intend to finish it by December this year. Almost 68 per cent of the work has been completed and payment has been made for 63 per cent,” said Minister Keshab Mahanta.

The Hospital Building will take some time, said the minister, “As the contractor got the hospital job at a later date so there will be a small delay in its completion.”

The minister also said that additional campus work will be awarded in consultation with the PWD and like in most of the medical colleges a good drainage system would be built along with the college buildings.
