Matiur Rahman from Dhubri is Assam’s 35th COVID-19 patient, says Himanta Biswa Sarma


GUWAHATI: One more COVID-19 case was detected today in the state taking the total count in Assam to 35. The patient who has been found positive today is from Bilasipara area in Dhubri district.

Talking to media persons in Guwahati, Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The name of the patient is Matiur Rahman, He is 62 year old. He came into contact with another COVID-19 patient named Jamaludddin Hazi.”

Sarma said that since Rahman was kept at the quarantine centre, the chances of spread of Coronavirus from the person are relatively low.

“He was under quarantine since April 5. We have found him positive on the 19th day. Therefore, we have increased the quarantine period to 28 days for those who come into direct contact with a patient,” Sarma added.

Currently, there are 15 active COVID-19 cases in the state. Whereas 19 patients have been discharged from hospital, one COVID-19 positive person from Hailakandi district died on April 10 at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
