Massive Arms Recovery in Manipur: Security Forces Seize 24 Weapons, 11 Militants Arrested

PUBLISHED:

Massive Arms Recovery in Manipur: In a powerful show of unity and alertness, security forces in Manipur have successfully recovered a huge stock of illegal arms, explosives, and ammunition in just five days. These operations took place between March 29 and April 3, 2025, across five sensitive districts: Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kangpokpi, Imphal East, and Bishnupur. This comes as a major step toward maintaining peace and security in the state.

The joint operations were led by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, working closely with the Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP. Altogether, they managed to recover 24 illegal weapons, grenades, IEDs, and a variety of dangerous ammunition that could have caused serious harm if not found on time. Officials say these timely actions prevented the possible misuse of these weapons for illegal and violent activities in the region.

The first breakthrough came on March 30 in Thangjing Hill area of Bishnupur, where the Army and police seized six weapons, including bolt-action rifles and homemade guns called “Pompi”. The next day, based on intelligence reports, another team discovered two powerful IEDs weighing 2.3 kg in Kaprang, Churachandpur district. These bombs were neutralised before they could hurt anyone.

Then, on April 1, five more weapons were found in Sajirok, Imphal West. These included a 7.62 mm SLR, a single-barrel rifle, and pistols. A day later, another set of weapons was recovered from S Mongpi Ridge in Kangpokpi district — this time, a .303 rifle, another SLR, an SBBL gun, and two pistols. On April 3, yet another operation in Twichin, Imphal East, led to the recovery of eight more weapons, including a 12-bore single-barrel gun and seven dangerous improvised mortars.

But that’s not all. In a separate operation, Manipur Police arrested 11 militants linked to banned outfits such as PREPAK, KYKL, KCP, and UPPK. These arrests were made across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Jiribam districts. The militants were involved in serious crimes like extortion, threats, and abductions. One of them, Nurul Islam alias Bapon (28), was found with four stolen two-wheelers in his possession.

During the last two months, police have caught over 60 militants and recovered many illegal items like arms, documents, and stolen property. The weapons seized include SLRs, .303 rifles, single-barrel guns, pistols, and more.

All recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur Police, and FIRs have been registered. Investigations are continuing to trace where these weapons came from and who was behind the supply. The combined forces of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and Manipur Police have proven once again that they are fully committed to protecting the people and restoring peace in the state.

These back-to-back successful operations have sent a strong message: those who try to disturb the peace in Manipur will be dealt with strictly. The people of Manipur can now feel a bit safer, knowing their protectors are alert, active, and united.
