GUWAHATI, Nov 29: Schools and colleges in the Imphal Valley and in Jiribam district of Manipur reopened today after 13 days.
The Directorate of Education Schools and Higher and Technical Education Department had on Thursday ordered resumption of classes in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal and Jiribam districts after the law-and-order situation in these violence-hit districts improved significantly.
Educational institutes in all the valley districts and Jiribam were closed since November 16 after violence broke out following the discovery of bodies of six people — three women and three children — belonging to the Meitei community allegedly abducted by Kuki insurgents from a relief camp.
Meanwhile, the Manipur government also relaxed curfew from 5 am to 4 pm on Friday in the five valley districts and Jiribam to enable people to purchase medicines and essential commodities.
