Guwahati: The first case of Omicron variant of coronavirus in the Northeast was detected in Manipur on Monday.
48-year old from Imphal West, who had recently visited the East African country of Tanzania, was tested positive for COVID-19 on December 21, as per sources.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal.
According to reports, his sample was sent for genome sequencing at IBSD Takyelpat, Imphal.
Three from his family have also tested positive for COVID-19.
They are also being treated at the hospital.
