Manipur Police crack down on poppy cultivation, four persons arrested

GUWAHATI, Dec 8: Manipur Police launched a massive crackdown on poppy cultivation while also apprehending four persons besides initiating legal action against a village chairman.

A joint team of Manipur Police, State Forest Dept. and an Executive Magistrate conducted a poppy destruction drive in which crops spread in one acre of area was destroyed at Mao Pungdong under Mao Police Station. Besides destroying the crops, actions was also initiated against the village chairman of the area.

In another incident, Manipur Police, in an operation in Khamason range of Ukhrul district, arrested four persons who were indulging in poppy cultivation in an estimated 30 acres of area.

The arrested persons were identified as Peimi Ramsak (27), Lightson Shimrah (49), Kapangkhui Khashim and Yatei SV (22).

An air gun and two knives were also recovered from their possession.
