Manipur Police arrest three militants in separate operations, seize Rs 22 lakh cash; arms and ammunition also recovered

Manipur Police arrested three militants in the past 48 hours in separate operations launched across the State while also seizing arms and ammunition from the arrested rebel leaders.

In the first operation, Manipur Police arrested a cadre of the outlawed UNLF, identified as Ahanthem Rajesh alias Nandakishore alias Parihan from Wangkhei under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district on Saturday for his alleged involvement in extortion activities.

Police also recovered a Berreta Pistol with 15 rounds of live ammunition along with two mobile phones from his possession.

A raid was conducted at his hideout based on his interrogation during which a large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered.

The recovered arms and ammunition seized from the hideout are: a SMG carbine, a 9 mm pistol, four magazines, a hand grenade, four launching tubes, 66 rounds of live sniper ammunition, 51 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 14 live rounds of Amogh rifle, 50 blank rounds, 22 used cartridge, a wireless handset and Rs 69,000 in cash.

In the second operation also carried out on Saturday, Manipur Police arrested an active member of UNLF(P), identified as Laishram Ramesh Singh alias Bobo (44) and a resident of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai in Imphal East district from his residence.

A member of he finance wing of the outfit, he was involved in extortion activities and served demand and threats letters besides also collecting money from government officials in and around Imphal area.

Two mobile handsets and a sum of Rs 21.5 lakh was recovered from his possession at the time of his arrest.

The third arrest was made in Bishnupur district with police arresting a KYKL cadre named Moirangthem Champion Singh alias Marjit (21) of Kumbi IB Road Ward No. 5 of Bishnupur district on Saturday.

Cops, meanwhile, also carried out routine search operations and area domination in vulnerable areas of both hill and valley districts in the State to thwart possible subversive activities by militants.
