Manipur CM facilitates 5 Manipuri Olympians of the state


Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister facilitated the five athletes who have participated in the Olympics of 2021 held in Tokyo. Nilakanta Sharma is associated with Men’s Hockey, Mirabai Chanu (associated with Weightlifting), Sushila Chanu from Women’s Hockey team, Sushila Likmabam ( associated with Judo), and Mary Kom who missed a chance to win a medal in Boxing were present there. The CM also shared a picture of this felicitation ceremony in his Twitter account which garnered several appreciations in less than 2 hours. The fearless courage that the North Eastern athletes have shown in Olympic 2021 is commendable and above any reward.

However, the CM also twitted that along with the felicitation program arranged for these Manipuri athletes, reward in the form of cash and jobs in different government sector for each of them is also provided. The reception, held on the 21st of August, 2021 was a grand affair and several prominent figures were present there. As a reply to the tweet, netizens of the state as well as beyond the border have appreciated this step of the Manipur Government in a lucid manner. It is also said that northeastern states have always shown their presence in the global arena, especially in the world of athletics.

Among the other prominent figures of the state and sports fraternity, Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel was also present there. In another tweet, Minister Patel also mentioned that the land of Manipur has always brought glory to India in front of the world. The felicitation ceremony was held in the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium of Manipur. Minister Kumar has also shared several pictures of handing over the rewards to the champions. It is important to mention here that athletes from different arenas have brought seven medals in the name of the country which is greater in number than any of the recent years.
