Manipur: Centre to rush 50 additional CAPF companies to restore peace and order

GUWAHATI, Nov 18: The Central Government has decided to send 50 additional companies of central armed police force (CAPF) in view of the unrest in Manipur, a report by news agency PTI quoting official sources stated today (Nov 18).

The Home Ministry had earlier dispatched 20 CAPF companies — 15 from the CRPF and 5 BSF — after violence took a turn for the worse following the killing of 10 Kuki militants in an encounter with CRPF and the spate of bloodbath thereafter.

The additional companies, the PTI report stated, have been told to reach the strife-torn State latest by the end of this week.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, meanwhile, chaired a high-level meeting today to discuss the ongoing situation.

On the other hand, in a fresh case of civilian death, one person was killed after security forces opened fire on protesters in Jiribam district.

The Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP), an ally of the N Biren Singh government in Manipur, yesterday (Nov 17) pulled out of the State government citing its failure in restoring peace and order.
