Mandatory COVID-19 testing for Assam teachers begins


GUWAHATI: The Assam government has asked all the teachers from primary schools to universities to test themselves for COVID-19 between August 21 to 30. The teachers have to join the duty on September 1 after getting tested negative.

“All teachers of schools, colleges and universities of the state are hereby requested to undergo COVID-RT-PCR  test between 21.08.2020 and 30.08.2020 as a safety measure before attending their respective institutions,” said commissioner and secretary to the elementary, secondary and higher education department in a notification on Friday.

Meanwhile, following the order, teachers from various parts of Assam started to undergo the COVID-RT-PCR tests as a precautionary measure.

“It is a good step,. We will start attending schools if tests come out as negative,” said a school teacher at Bokakhat  in Golaghat district.
