A man has been taken into custody for physically assaulting an elderly woman in the middle of a busy road in Kahilipara locality of Guwahati.
The arrest was made after a video of the man, identified as Arup Sharma, went viral on the social media after it was telecast on News Live and the same uploaded on our digital handles.
The barbaric incident took place on Saturday morning.
The video showed the attacker pulling the woman, who appears to be in her late seventies or early eighties, by her hair and dragging her while hurling abuses on her while onlookers remained mute spectators.
The video, apparently shot by some eyewitness, further showed the attacker thumping the helpless women on the ground.
Surprisingly, nobody came out to the rescue of the woman as people either remained mute spectators or else passed by.
The reason why the elderly woman was beaten up by the arrested man is not known.
