GUWAHATI, Jan 27: One person who is suspected to have contracted the Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) has died in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, a report by news agency PTI citing health officials stated.
The report stated that the deceased had come to Pune where he is suspected to have contracted the disease.
Meanwhile, people affected by the syndrome — which causes sudden numbness and weakness in muscles and severe weakness in the limbs besides also suffering from loose motion and other symptoms — rose with 101 people, 68 males and 33 females, stated to be affected by the syndrome in Pune.
81 patients are from Pune Municipal Corporation area, 14 from Pimpri Chinchwad and 6 are from other districts, news agency ANI stated quoting the Maharashtra Public Health Department.
Medics, meanwhile, said that the disease is prevalent in both paediatric and young-age groups and that most patients recover fully if administered adequate treatment.
