GUWAHATI, Dec 29: A 32-year-old man in Maharashtra set his wife on fire after she gave birth to the couple’s third daughter.
Kundlik Uttam Kale allegedly poured petrol on his wife Maina and set her on fire at their house in Gangakhed Naka, some 520 kilometres from Mumbai, on Thursday night, reports said.
The accused used to pick up frequent quarrels with his wife over the issue of her giving birth to three daughters.
On Thursday, the husband-wife duo entered into another heated war of words following which he poured petrol on his wife and set her on fire.
“On Thursday night, after one such argument, he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. She ran out of the house screaming where people tried to douse the fire. However, by then she was severely burnt and died while being rushed to a hospital,” news agency PTI quoted a local police official as saying.
The accused husband was later arrested by police.
