LS polls 2024: Candidates in Assam declare assets in election affidavit, details here

How much money do you think the candidates contesting the Lok Sabha polls have in their bank accounts? Or do you know which politician is a millionaire and who does not even own a car or is living in a rented apartment?

The affidavits submitted by the candidates to the Election Commission of India (ECI) along with their nomination papers in Assam have revealed that the state has some millionaire candidates contesting the polls.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, who is contesting the polls from Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat, has declared that he has Rs 28,000 cash in hand. Apart from the cash in hand, Sonowal also has Rs 48 lakh in 4 different bank accounts, the election affidavit revealed.

The affidavit also revealed that the former Assam Chief Minister also has a loan of Rs 16 lakh against his name. It also mentioned that he does not own a car and has immovable assets worth Rs 1.65 crore.

Meanwhile, the affidavit submitted by BJP’s Lakhimpur candidate Pradan Baruah revealed that he has Rs 38 lakh in 3 different bank accounts. He also has immovable assets worth Rs 70 lakh.

The affidavit also revealed that Baruah’s wife has a residential complex in her name in Guwahati, apart from having a loan of Rs 22 lakh against her name.

The election affidavit submitted by the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate from Dibrugarh, Lurinjyoti Gogoi has revealed that he has Rs 10 lakh cash and jewellery worth Rs 90 thousand.

The value of Lurin’s immovable assets is Rs 25 lakh, while he has a loan of Rs 5 thousand against his name, the affidavit revealed.

He does not own a house, however, the AJP president has farmland worth Rs 9 lakh to his name.

Meanwhile, Congress’ Sonitpur candidate Premlal Ganju has two police cases registered against him, the election affidavit revealed. He also has cash of Rs 1 lakh with him.

Congress candidate from Karimganj, Roselina Tirkey, in her election affidavit, revealed that she has assets worth Rs 45 lakh to her name.

It may be mentioned that today is the last day of filing nominations for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls, scheduled on April 19.

Elections for the 18th Lok Sabha will be held in seven phases, in Assam voting will take place in three phases on April 19, April 26 and May 7. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
