LPG crisis looms large

PUBLISHED:

An imminent crisis of domestic LPG cylinders in Assam seems to be looming large after the Northeast (Packed) LPG Transporters’ Association launched an indefinite strike, deciding against ferrying cooking gas cylinders to protest the shifting of Indian Oil Corporation’s head office from Guwahati to Kolkata.

The strike that was launched yesterday (Sep 9) entered its second day today with production coming down to a standstill in all LPG cylinder bottling plants in the State.

The transporters’ association is also unhappy with a few other decisions taken by IOCL, including the hike in tender earnest money and reduction of profit margin by 20%.

Leaders of the association said if IOCL authorities pay no heed to their demands, they will be forced to intensify their protests.
