Low-key Durga Puja idol immersion in Guwahati

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: With the immersion of idols, the Durga Puja comes to an end on Monday. The puja committees in Guwahati made the immersion at two major ghats—Kachamari Ghat in Fancy Bazar and Pandu Ghat of the city. The immersion remained a low-key affair this time in view of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Immersion is going well. Police and administration have made all the efforts for law and order including traffic arrangements,” said commissioner of police Munna Prasad Gupta while inspecting the immersion at Kachamari Ghat.

“As per the guidelines of the Pollution Control Board and district administration, measures have been taken to combat plastic pollution,” he added.

Though the people gathered to witness the immersion, they were asked to strictly maintain social distancing norms.

“We are biding adieu to Maa Durga for this year. We couldn’t celebrate Puja in a befitting manner because of the pandemic. We hope, everything will be normal next year and we will be able to celebrate Puja in a grand manner,” said a devotee.
