Manzil Ahmed of Bokakhat in Assam claimed that his lover Suhana willingly eloped with him on Monday

Love, Elopement and Dhokha… How a love story in Assam seesawed from one extreme to the other ~ A fast-changing turn of events that seesawed from one extreme to the other… that too in 24 hours, or even less. What appeared to be a love story, and it could still be one, turned into a clash between two families and ending in an abduction: at least the fast-changing events so suggested.

The story begins with Manzil Ahmed arriving at his Bokakhat home, where his aged grandparents lived with other family members, on Monday night. With him came Suhana Sultana of Dhirenpara, Guwahati.

Suhana, Manzil’s grandfather Nurul Hussain later said, was introduced to him as his grandson’s lover who had eloped with him from Guwahati on Monday. Suhana told him that she willingly came with Manzil and that her family members used to torture him.

That was on Monday night, at around 9 pm.

However, a group of people who Nurul Hussain said were Suhana’s family members came to their house early Tuesday morning. They were around 8-9 people, two of them women, and started assaulting them.

“They spoke in Miya language. They hit me and my wife with the buts of pistols and forcibly took Manzil and Suhana with them,” Manzil’s grandfather told News Live, pointing to the bandaged wound on his forehead.

“They said they would kill our grandson,” he added.

From Bokakhat, the scene shifted to Guwahati where the female protagonist of the story, 18-year-old Suhana, a HS 2nd year student of a college in Guwahati, told News Live in their Dhirenpara residence that she met Manzil outside their college on Monday and that he cajoled her into going to Bokakhat with him.

“He met me outside my college yesterday and took me to Bokakhat with him without explicitly telling me where we were going,” she said.

Suhana also categorically rejected the accusations of Manzil’s grandfather that her family members had physically assaulted him.

She, however, admitted that she and Manzil were in a relationship.

Amid the accusations and countercharges, the male protagonist — Manzil Ahmed — broke his silence when he, after returning to Bokakhat upon being “released” by his “abductors” at Khanapara, told News Live that Suhana had willingly come with him to Bokakhat, countering her claim that she did not know where Manzil was taking her to.

“Three persons had arms with them along with Suhana’s mother, her elder sister and brother-in-law who allegedly hit me with the butt of a gun,” Manzil said, injuries on his face and head clearly visible.

He further claimed that Suhana was not in her college uniform but he had picked her up from near her college since she feared that if Manzil would come to their house, her parents would know that she was going out with him.
