Loud sound heard in Golaghat and nearby areas leads to panic: Panic struck residents of Golaghat town and adjoining areas after a loud noise was heard in many places of the district this afternoon. The mysterious sound triggered greater panic given the situation along the Indo-Pak border and in Northern and Western parts of the country as Pakistan attempted to escalate the situation since yesterday while Indian forces foiled multiple drone and missile attacks by the neighbouring nation since Thursday night.

People said they heard a loud noise that shook houses and buildings at 3:39 pm with many people running out of their houses in panic.

While some thought it to be an earthquake at first, others said the loud sound could be a sonic boom, the loud noise created when an aircraft exceeds the speed of sound.

“It was a deafening sound leading to panic among people. The sound could be heard even in Numaligarh, Merapani, Borhola and even Jorhat. We still don’t know what the source was,” a resident of Golaghat said.
