India created a world record as 64.2 crore voters exercised their franchise in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which concluded on June 1. The Election Commission of India conducted a press conference on Monday, a day before the much-awaited results and said as many as 31.2 crore women participated in Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a press briefing on June 3, the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that over 68,000 monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel were involved in the world’s largest electoral exercise.

“India created a world record with 64.2 crore voters, including 31.2 crore women, participating in the Lok Sabha elections this year,” said Kumar.

He further added that Jammu and Kashmir recorded the highest turnout in four decades at 58.58 per cent overall, and 51.05 per cent in the valley.
“Only 39 repolls took place in 2024 general elections as against 540 repolls in 2019”, he added.

The 44 day mega Indian Lok Sabha Election 2024 concluded on June 1 after a lengthy process of polling. The exit polls were conducted 30 mins after the phase seven election ended in the respective constituencies and according to the predictions a wide range of seats crossing 360 is estimated for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaving Congress’s INDI Alliance with only 152 seats out of 543. Some polls have also projected over 400 seats for the NDA. If these polls come true then the Prime Minister Modi would match Jawaharlal Nehru’s record leading his party to victory for the third consecutive term. The official results will be declared on June 4.
