Lockdown not an option in Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government is not mulling to impose a lockdown as the COVID-19 situation is still under control.

The Assam health minister added that the government will step up precautionary measures at the airports and railway stations.

“Situation is under control in Assam. We are getting 50-70 cases daily that too are in the airports and railway stations. There are not many cases in the state. So, there is no need to worry. If we continue the test properly in airports and railway stations the covid situation will stay under control,” said Dr. Sarma.

It is to be noted that Assam now has 683 active cases, while 2,15,691 people have so far been cured of the disease, taking the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients to 98.56 per cent.
On the other hand,  a total of 10.69 lakh people have been administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 1.84 lakh people have received the second dose.
