At least five persons were killed after they were hit by lightning in separate incidents across Assam. While four people died at Singimari and Sualkuchi, a 6-year-old girl died at Kalgachia in Barpeta district.
Hemanta Das (47) of Sualkuchi died after a lightning flash hit him while he had gone to bath at the Brahmaputra river bank.
On the other hand, Prasanna Barman (48), Somesh Ali (27) and Lokman Ali (28) died after they were hit by lightning at Singimari.
On the other hand, Jahida Khatun (6) was killed while two more, identified as Rukia Khatun and Shafikul Islam, were injured at Tapajuli in Kalgachia in Assam’s Barpeta district.
The lightning struck after a fierce storm lashed many parts of Assam, bringing down trees and electricity police and lead to widespread devastation and damage to property.
