Landslide buries 5 trucks in Banderdewa in NH-15 Assam

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: A massive landslide took place in the Banderdewa area of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Friday. Movement in National Highway 15(NH-15) was temporarily suspended due to this landslide. No casualties have been reported in the incident but five transport trucks that were parked in a parking area were buried by the landslide. The drivers of all the trucks somehow escaped unhurt. A road-side shop was also damaged after an electric pole fell in the shop. Local residents claim that the incident took place due to the cutting of the lower part of the hill.

“I was inside my truck and was asleep and the landslide occurred and I felt sand in my mouth and nose. The landslide pushed the truck almost 10 feet away from the parking space,” said one truck driver who escaped near death.

“Luckily, only five trucks were parked there due to Viswakarma Puja. Normally, more than 50 trucks are parked here at any given time,” said a local who rushed to the spot immediately.
