GUWAHATI: North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam cabinet minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) leader Lafikul Islam was murdered for political reasons.
Addressing a public meeting at Saraibil in Chirang district under Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Sarma said, “During Hagrama Mohilary’s rule in BTC, political murders were initiated. Lafikul Islam was murdered for political reasons.”
“We want peace and democracy in Assam,” he added.
He promised that culprits in Lafikul’s murder will be identified within two months after BJP forms Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
Lafikul Islam, then ABMSU president was shot dead in Titaguri Market under Kokrajhar district in 2017. The murder sparked widespread protests across the region.
