GUWAHATI, March 21: The KKR-LSG IPL tie on April 6 is likely to be shifted to Guwahati from Kolkata due to security concerns.

Reports said Kolkata Police expressed their inability to provide security for the IPL fixture due to Ram Navami celebrations which will take place on the same day.

“The IPL match between KKR and LSG on April 6 is to be shifted from Kolkata to Guwahati following security concerns on Ram Navami day,” Cricket Association of Bengal president Snehashish Ganguly was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

“We have informed the BCCI to reschedule the match, but there is no scope for rescheduling the game in the city later and I’m now hearing that it’s going to be shifted to Guwahati,” the PTI report further mentioned the CAB president as saying.

“I had several rounds of talks with the Kolkata Police and they said they won’t be able to provide enough security on that day. If there’s no police protection, accommodating and managing a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible,” he added.

The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants will be the third tie of IPL 2025 Guwahati will host. The Barsapara Stadium will act as the second home ground of Rajasthan Royals and will host their matches against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 and Chennai Super Kings on March 30.

Cricket fans, meanwhile, reacted with joy at Guwahati in all probability getting the chance to host the April 6 tie between KKR and LSG.

“It’s a great news for cricket fans of the city. Fans will now get a chance to witness another match at Barsapara Stadium. We look forward to enjoying the match,” Parthajit Sarania of Rajgarh, a die-hard cricket fan who follows each and every match of the cash-rich tournament, told News Live.
